"The Uniform of the Several Regiments of Foot": the DAG's Uniform Book of 1771 (1st-35th Regiments)

Today, we have part of a collection of soldier images recently acquired  by the Society of the Cincinnati Library.  This wonderful library collects relevant material, not just for the history of the society, but relevant to the art of war in the eighteenth century.  Today, I am posting a portion of "The Uniforms of Several Regiments of Foot in His Majesty's Service", which is how the volume is titled on the inside cover. This collection of uniform plates was made in 1771 for the use of the War Office, and was in the possession of the Deputy Adjutant General. It is very similar (perhaps a copy) of the famous "Grenadier Book" in the Prince Consort's Library.  It portrays soldiers conforming, by and large, to the Royal Warrant of 1768. At this point in time, Lt. General Edward Harvey was the Deputy Adjutant General.

These uniform plates show the British Army as it might have appeared on home service during the 1770s, and like most of the uniform plates of the time, is made in a rather mechanical fashion.
